Too Busy Not to Pray

These are busy times, and it is easy to let the world interfere with our prayer life. However, as many Christian leaders over the years have said, it is in times of great stress and “busyness” that our prayers are the most needed.

Our nation was founded on prayer. The pilgrims at Plymouth prayed through the tough winter. George Washington spent an hour each day in prayer through the most perilous times. The founders prayed during the Constitutional Convention.

In the midst of our terrible Civil War, President Lincoln proclaimed a day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer.” He told the American people that “it is the duty of nations as well as men, to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God.” Before the battle of Gettysburg, Lincoln prayed to God. Moments before the battle, Lincoln said, “I went to my room one day and I locked the door and got down on my knees before Almighty God and prayed to him mightily for victory at Gettysburg.”

In the midst of turmoil around the world and of great financial hardship at home, America needs our prayers. Justice Fellowship urges you to join in the National Day of Prayer, praying and giving thanks to God for the abundance of material gifts and the blessings of liberty He has bestowed on us. Please pray for God’s guidance, protection and wisdom for our nation’s leaders and for the American people. Help us understand that God is indeed “A Mighty Fortress.” As David wrote in Psalm 91:2, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

We are a busy people. But we must never be too busy to pray. Justice Fellowship hopes you will set aside this day for special prayers, and that you will also be convicted to make prayer for our nation a daily discipline that starts this first Thursday in May – and continues every day that we draw breath.

Use the list below as a guide for whom to pray.

  • Pray for Federal Leaders, the President, members of his cabinet, the Congress and the Courts;
  • Pray for those serving us in the Armed Forces;
  • Pray for our State Leaders and representatives;
  • Pray for Local Leaders and the people of our communities
