Current Laws
The Second Chance Act (2007) The Act authorizes grants for States to develop family-based substance abuse treatment and authorizes a pilot program for family-reunification for elderly, nonviolent offenders. It also requires the Bureau of Prisons to report to Congress on its use of shackles on pregnant women, and it authorizes the Attorney General to collect data on best practices that ensure the safety and support of children of incarcerated parents.
