Current Laws

The Second Chance Act (2007)
The Act authorizes grants for States to develop, implement, and expand drug treatment programs that are alternatives to incarceration.  The Act also authorizes a pilot program for home detention for elderly prisoners in the Bureau of Prisons.   

Sentencing Reform Act (1984)
The Act established the United States Sentencing Commission, which develops guidelines for judges to use when sentencing.
