About Out4Life
About Out4Life
In 2007 Prison Fellowship developed Out4Life to find a better way to tackle recidivism nationwide—a costly fact in tax dollars, victims, and cultural degradation. To do this Out4Life brought together a diverse group of community stakeholders state by state. They included representatives of faith-based organizations, state agencies, corrections, community-based organizations, victim’s advocacy groups, and the business community. These groups discussed how to coordinate reentry efforts in their state. Out4Life calls for the creation of coalitions that will provide pre-release, day-of-release, and post-release programming and mentoring to prisoners enrolled in the program.
Frequently Asked Questions about Out4Life
- What is happening with Out4Life?
Out4Life continues to be part of Prison Fellowship’s mechanism for building coalitions supporting the re-entry of prisoners. Having conducted conferences in 11 states around the country from 2008 – 2011, our focus is currently on supporting and maintaining these networks of coalitions. As prisoners are released from our PF pre-release programs around the country we are able to connect them with service providers that are a part of coalitions. - Will the local reentry coalitions continue?
Yes, the local re-entry coalitions continue to work to support prisoners releasing into the community. - Will there be any more Out4Life conferences?
There are currently no Out4Life conferences scheduled but we expect to have new conferences scheduled in the future.
- What are some other ways I can assist inmates as they prepare for release, and after they enter society?
We encourage churches to open their doors to assist inmates reentering society. There are many ways to help through existing ministries of the church such as food pantries, medical ministries, substance abuse support groups and so on.
