History of Justice Fellowship

historyJustice Fellowship was founded in 1983 by Chuck Colson as an outgrowth of his ministry in prisons, Prison Fellowship.  As he worked to bring the gospel to prisoners, Chuck realized that a second ministry was needed, a ministry that used biblical principles to address the injustices within our criminal justice system.  Justice Fellowship operated as an independent nonprofit organization until 2001, when it became a department within Prison Fellowship.

Quality research and successful campaigns for reform and have earned respect for Justice Fellowship in capitals and courthouses across the country.  Through decades of faithful service, we have made significant contributions to restoring justice across the nation.
